The nine-member Greenville County Planning Commission and its twenty-member staff provide planning assistance to Greenville County Council, as well as six municipalities. Since its establishment in 1963, the Commission has continued to promote orderly growth through its planning services.

The Commission is actively involved in site plan reviews, subdivision approvals, and the latest update of the county's Comprehensive Plan. The planning process, entitled Designing Our Destiny has involved thousands of citizens throughout the county. The plan addresses many future issues, such as land use impacts, urban sprawl, preservation of open space, and the coordination of public services.
