Approximately 150 people attended the first Designing Our Destiny community meeting at Berea High School. The introduction to the process was held in the school’s auditorium. Break-out groups then met in the auditorium and two classrooms to allow the meeting attendees to voice their opinions on what they would like to see added to their community, what they would like to see less of, and what they would like to see removed. Planning Commission staff members recorded over 70 specific suggestions. These include:

  • Providing better access from the Northwest area to downtown Greenville;

  • More assisted living facilities for seniors;

  • Encouraging Greenville Tech to create a Northwest campus;

  • Improving the road side appearance of several major roads;

  • Creating park and ride lots; and

  • Discouraging new industrial uses in the area.
