December 3, 1998

Approximately 35 people attended the December 3 community meeting at Gowensville Community Center. Planning Commission staff members recorded over 40 specific suggestions. These include:

  • The enforcement of illegal dumping laws should be a priority in this area;

  • There should be more signage regulations to ensure sign compatibility with the scenic characteristics of Highway 11. The county should consider other options to zoning to ensure that Highway 11 remains a scenic highway;

  • The residents discussed the need for possible commercial development in the area, such as a grocery store, dry cleaners, restaurant, video store, etc.; and

  • It was agreed that in this area of Greenville County the need for basic services must be met or provided before we should consider encouraging growth in the area.
