September 27, 1998

Approximately ten people attended the September 27 community meeting at Wade Hampton High School. As with the previous community meetings, the introduction to the process was held in the auditorium. Due to the small number of attendees, discussion was also conducted in the auditorium. Planning Commission staff members recorded over 20 specific suggestions. These include:

  • Focusing on transportation options to serve the low income population;

  • Pursuing rail transportation for commuters;

  • Encouraging redevelopment and reuse of vacant commercial buildings;

  • Establishing recreation/care centers that can serve both the senior and youth populations; and

  • Reducing the number of commercial rezonings in the Wade Hampton/Taylors area.
